What happens when you return from a study break

When you go on a break, the UAL Online Student Success Team will record your expected return date based on your original application.

We review expected return dates every month. We’ll reach out to you in advance of your return with next steps related to your re-enrolment, next unit selection and tuition payment instalment. Once you have completed these tasks, we’ll update your record to confirm your expected return to study.

If you have any questions in the meantime, reach out to the Student Success Team.

How to shorten or extend your break

Please reach out to the UAL Online Student Success Team in the first instance to discuss your options. There will be implications for the units you can take next, your eventual time to graduation and any outstanding assessments that may be on your record. The Student Success Team can help you understand your options and file the necessary paperwork to have the changes to your break period approved by UAL.

A conversation is particularly important if you're considering taking a longer break from studying. The maximum registration period for UAL Online courses is the normal course duration (i.e. 2 years for our Master’s degrees) plus an additional 2 years. You may exceed the maximum registration time by taking longer breaks from studying.

Returning to study after leaving your course early

If you do wish to return to your studies after leaving early by choice, you’ll need to reapply for your course.

If we are able to accept your re-entry, we’ll do our best to credit your previously studied units to your chosen award. We cannot guarantee, however, that you will be able to return to your studies exactly where you left off if you choose to leave your course before completion.

The UAL Online Recruitment Team can advise you on the process and your options on an individual basis if you have already left and wish to return at a future date.
