Biography

Marcus O’Dair is Professor designate of Innovation and the Creative Economy, and Associate Dean of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise, at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts (UAL). He worked in the music and media industries before moving into higher education.

Marcus is the author of 'Different Every Time: The Authorised Biography of Robert Wyatt' (Serpent’s Tail 2014), a book of the week on BBC Radio 4, and 'Distributed Creativity: How Blockchain Will Transform the Creative Economy' (Palgrave 2018). He has published in peer-reviewed journals including 'Popular Communication', 'Strategic Change', 'Popular Music', 'IASPM@Journal', 'Life Writing', 'Journal of Risk Finance and International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation', and in various edited collections. He is also co-editor of 'Mute Records: Artists, Business, History' (Bloomsbury 2019). His work, which has been supported by funders including the British Council, Office for Students and EPSRC, has included training cultural leaders from Mexico and music industry figures from Ghana as well as supporting creative businesses in the UK.

Marcus is interested in supervising PhDs in appropriate fields, especially on the impact of emerging technologies on the music industry and wider creative economy.
