About

Nina Stewart was the only child of a Romanian Jewish couple. In the 1930s, worried by the threat of fascism, they left Romania for Cyprus, and Nina went to study art in Paris. During the Second World War she joined the British forces in Cairo as a translator, with the rank of Captain. After the war, she moved to London and became a successful businesswoman. She married an English businessman, Roger Stewart, and they led a happy and stylish life together.

Nina loved clothes and was always impeccably dressed. When she died in 2011 at the age of 95, she left nearly all her estate to set up a grant-making charity, The Nina and Roger Stewart Charitable Trust. The Nina Stewart Awards are a legacy to Nina’s personal interest in style and fashion.
