Charter marks and memberships
We are committed to creating a fairer and more inclusive institution for all staff, students, visitors and our university community.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are integral parts of our University's strategy, values and activities. Staff and students recognise that we all have a key role to play in making this a reality.
UAL works towards 3 separate charter marks. It holds membership to different organisations to support us with our commitments to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Race Equality Charter
UAL is a member of the Race Equality Charter (REC). The REC provides a framework to analyse and assess our processes, practices and policies for barriers that negatively impact Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff and students.
Run by Advance HE, the REC aims to improve the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff and students within higher education.
Member institutions develop an actions plan to address barriers, and can apply for a Bronze or Silver REC award, depending on their level of progress.
Disability Confident
Disability Confident is a government scheme. It aims to create a movement of change and encourage employers to think differently about disability.
It helps employers take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.
As a Disability Confident Committed employer, we have committed to:
- inclusive and accessible recruitment
- communicating vacancies
- offering an interview to disabled people
- providing reasonable adjustments
- supporting existing employees
- undertaking at least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people.
UAL is a Disability Confident Committed employer (Level 1).
We are working towards progressing to Level 2 of the scheme so that we can become a Disability Confident Employer.
Business Disability Forum
UAL is a member of the Business Disability Forum, a not-for-profit membership organisation that aims to improve the lives of disabled people in the workplace.
UAL staff have access to expert support and advice, a wide range of learning resources and guidance on disability inclusion.
