Matt Hawkins is an graphic artist living and working in London. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001 he has developed a strong visual identity that incorporates a broad spectrum of influences and disciplines, all of which are consolidated by his passion for drawing. Working predominantly in pencil, pen and markers he constructs luscious imagery from an unexpected combination of doodles, sketches and studies. Themes of the figure in the landscape, place, beauty, existence, history and the surreal are ever present. These variants are presented in a vibrant and confrontational graphic language.
His work has been exhibited internationally and featured in numerous publications including Creative Review, It’s Nice That, Grafik Magazine, Varoom Magazine, Dazed & Confused and This is a Magazine.
Matthew has 20 years teaching experience and has been working at Camberwell since 2007. He is a senior lecturer and year co-ordinator across illustration and graphic design disciplines.
