An introduction to digital performance making and digital learning in the context of the studio and online spaces.

Developed specifically for tutors delivering a performing arts programme, this 3-hour CPD workshop will share ways for you to integrate creative digital technologies into your teaching and learning. This session will help you to identify ways in which you can encourage your students to repurpose smartphone devices, free apps, and online spaces to explore new ways of performance making that are relevant to both your existing practice and the restrictions of current times.

This session – now in its third iteration – will explore what digital performance making means both in and out of the studio context and how creative ideas can be explored without the use of costly and inaccessible resources. The philosophy behind the work is to encourage prototyping, iteration, and creative problem solving, encouraging students to utilise their knowledge and understanding of digital tools in a way that is innovative and valuable to them as developing artists.

The facilitator will share her knowledge and experience following 3 years of research with student groups studying the UAL Level 3 Performing and Production Arts qualification. In the session, she will share a proof of concept for how you can integrate these ideas into your existing curriculum, share real-world examples of relevant performance work and offer resources to support your continued learning following the event.

The session is suitable for all experience levels and alongside the practical experiments presents a theoretical framework to help you consider different modes of pedagogy and practice relevant to both higher education and industry progression.

This session will revisit and develop concepts and ideas from Digital Play: Performing Arts hosted in November 2020 and March 2021.

Please note: computer, smartphone, and internet access are required to attend the workshop.
