Course overview
If you have already covered the basic technical exercises in learning how to make jewellery, the Intermediate Jewellery Short Course will guide you into practical workshop experience in a confident way. Students will explore and expand their jewellery design ideas in the workshops with practical and design guidance.
You will receive advice on sourcing tools and materials, further research sources and further courses that may be suitable to build on your skills and particular interests.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone who has already covered technical exercises in learning how to make jewellery. We welcome students with ideas about how they wish to design their jewellery.
This is a summer-school only short course running only once a year. We encourage early bookings to secure your place.

- Techniques for creating coils, cutting links, soldering, and adding texture

- Soldering earring posts or bails and polishing techniques
- Designing, making and polishing your own jewellery piece using techniques learnt
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will have:
- Learnt how to make chain jewellery using mainly sterling silver
- An introduction to basic chain making, where you will make your own chain bracelet
- Learnt how to create coils, cut links, solder them, and add texture using hammering techniques
- Learnt how to make a T-bar clasp and attach it securely to your chain
- Explored flush stone setting, melted silver to create small nugget shapes and learnt how to set stones securely using professional tools
- Soldered earring posts or bails and polished your finished pieces
- Designed and made your own piece of jewellery using the techniques you’ve learnt
- Received individual support and advice to help complete your design within the time available
- Created a final polish of your work and engaged in group discussion to share what you’ve made

Tutor
Mizuki Tochigi
Mizuki Tochigi is a contemporary jewellery artist based in London. She studied Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins, where she focused on sustainability throughout her work. Mizuki sees sustainable thinking as a creative force and uses recycled and environmentally friendly materials to reduce waste and energy use. Her designs challenge how we see everyday materials, turning them into something valuable through jewellery. She believes jewellery can inspire real change in how we think and act for a more sustainable future.
Alongside her practice, Mizuki works as a jewellery technician at LCF and involved in academic practice in CSM, where she supports students in developing their own creative and technical skills. Her work has been shown in exhibitions in London, Milan, Budapest, Japan, and Munich Jewellery Week.
