Course overview

Combine your creative and technical skills to tell compelling stories in this intensive course introducing the fundamentals of animation and illustration. Designed for young people considering further study, this course guides you through the process of creating an animated short film to support future applications.

You'll explore current industry practices through discussions and projects, developing traditional and digital drawing techniques. By the end of the course, you'll have a strong understanding of how animation and illustration can capture attention and communicate ideas effectively.

Drawing on London College of Communication's legacy in the industry, this course equips you with practical skills and the confidence to speak about your work. It's ideal for preparing for applying to courses in animation, illustration, UX design, fine art, media studies and filmmaking.

  • 2B Pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Eraser
  • Pad of tracing paper or A5 sized layout paper (very thin paper)
  • Assorted rulers (30cm or more)
  • Smartphone with Stop Motion Studio app downloaded (the app is free)
  • Any drawing materials you enjoy using (e.g. colouring pencils, felt tips, black pens)

  • Digital animation programmes (e.g. Procreate, Procreate Dreams, Adobe Animate or Photoshop)
  • Lightbox
  • iPad, tablet or drawing tablet (e.g. Ugee, Wacom)

Cako Facioli is a multidisciplinary Character Animator, Director, Illustrator, and Model Maker with over 26 years of experience in  the creative industry. With a background in Graphic Design, he has worked across animation, illustration, and sculpture for advertising, publishing, games, and feature films. His portfolio includes leadership roles at studios like Toikido, Mind Candy, and MS Skype, and contributions to global brands such as Aardman, Disney, and Nickelodeon. Cako blends artistic vision with technical expertise, bringing characters and stories to life across media.

Sacha Beeley

Sacha Beeley is an animator, illustrator and director known for her playful work with her distinctive design, lively colour palette and natural comic timing. Inanimate objects come to life in unusual ways, and her characters are instantly recognisable with exaggerated proportions and relaxed, loose performances. Sacha has directed spots for MTV, Amazon, Adult Swim, Ted, Netflix and viral campaign work with Gillette Venus. Sacha’s vibrant, tongue-in-cheek style has earned her winning titles from the Shots Awards and the Creative Circle.
