Course overview
Are you planning to study spatial and architectural designs whilst refreshing your drawing techniques? This course will help you to build your confidence and your ability to visualise and draw space by applying sketching techniques to an individually developed project. The project will take you through the entire architectural design process, from concept design to final presentation, including techniques such as architectural sketching, technical drawing, and material experimentation.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone interested in developing architectural drawing skills, regardless of prior experience. Beginners are welcome, as are those looking to expand existing knowledge.

Materials
- Sketchbook or notebook (A4 or A3 are ideal sizes)
- Sketching pencils, a set of at least 3 (HB, B, H)
- Tape measure
Items required for the latter half of the course:
- Adjustable set square (20 cm minimum)
- A4 size isometric graph paper pad
Tutor
Nahed Jawad Chakouf
Nahed is an architectural designer and academic with over 15 years of experience in architectural practice in the UK. Before founding NJ Architecture in 2014, Nahed has worked for an award-winning architectural practice, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), London where she was part of the team of KAPSARK, Signature towers, Elk Grove Civic Centre.
Nahed received her Master’s in Architecture and Urbanism from the Architectural Association (AA), London, and a PhD in Architecture from the Bartlett school of Architecture, UCL, London. The focus was on 3D geometrical patterning and computational design.
Since 2015, Nahed has been lecturing extensively at numerous institutions including at the Bartlett School of Architecture, and at Central Saint Martins (UAL).
Nahed’s ambition is to inform a new kind of architectural language, that combines the endless possibilities of computational design with ancient methods of geometric patterning; in order to create a truly timeless architecture that combines history and tradition with innovation and ingenuity.
Emilie Queney
Emilie Queney trained as an interior designer and architect in Paris, where she also obtained a postgraduate degree in philosophy and architecture. She has developed a multidisciplinary and collaborative practice, focusing on project design and management, architectural theory, and innovative methods of engaging various audiences with architecture.
Throughout her career, Emilie has worked in Berlin, Paris, Lausanne, Hamburg, and London where she has taken on various roles such as architect, teaching assistant, model maker, artist facilitator, stop-motion animator, and toy designer. She has participated in architectural residencies and collaborated with institutions such as the Centre Pompidou and the Young V&A.
