Course description
Course overview
This short course offers an opportunity to learn how to create plans, elevations and sections as used by interior design professionals. You will gain an understanding of the drawings used in Interior Design, the processes and spatial considerations involved.
You will begin by learning how to use the equipment and materials and how to work in different scales. You will then carry out a detailed survey from which you will produce your own drawings to include furniture and interior fittings. By the end of the course, you will come away with a good grasp of drawing conventions, layout and notation.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone, aged 18 and older, considering or wishing to take up Interior Design as a profession as well as designers studying or working in architecture or theatre design. The course is also a good starting point for those who want to progress to using CAD programmes.

Materials
- Notebook and Pen
- A3 Graph paper x 6 sheets
- A3 Tracing paper pad 5 metre measuring tape
- Technical 'clutch' pencils (size 0.5)
- Additional 0.5 2H leads for the above technical clutch pencil
- Size 250 or 300 mm 45-degree set square
- Flat or triangular scale ruler (showing standard scales 1:100, 1:50, 1:25, 1:20, 1:5)
- Circle template
- 0.1 and 0.8 drawing pens (one thin and one thick)
- Eraser
- Masking tape (25mm)
- General purpose scissors
- A flat table on which to work or drawing board
Tutor
Debbie Blandford
Debbie Blandford has a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Art and 28 years experience working as design consultant to architectural practices and individual clients. She has a passion for working collaboratively and globally, resulting in a truly eclectic career. Projects have included hotels, bars and restaurants, aviation design, exhibitions, and high end residential interiors.
Clients have included the government of Saudi Arabia. Debbie also designs Furniture offering a truly bespoke interior service as well as developing products with Ross Lovegrove.
Alongside her professional career she has taught part time across all educational levels in both the public and private sectors as well as delivering specialist courses for companies including British Airways, The Foreign Office and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Currently Associate Lecturer at The University of the Arts London & Professor at Syracuse University.
