Course description
Course overview
Explore the exciting world of digital design through a series of fun and engaging projects. This course introduces you to how images can be manipulated across both print and online platforms.
Using Adobe design packages (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), you'll experiment with illustration, pattern, image editing, animation, and typography to learn key principles of graphic design and illustration. You'll also be encouraged to brainstorm, visually research, and develop your ideas digitally to realise the potential of your creative work.
This course is available on campus or online.

Everything else needed to complete the course is provided, but please feel free to bring any current sketchbooks or materials you enjoy using.
IMPORTANT - Adobe ID Login for Short Course Students
Students will need to create an account with Adobe (unless you already have one) to access the Adobe suite at the college – instructions are included below. You can sign up for a free 7-day trial of Adobe Creative Cloud. Please note a credit card is and an email address is required to register for the free trial. The subscription must be cancelled on the date provided by Adobe if you do not wish to continue onto a paid account
If you already have an account with Adobe, please make sure you bring your login details with you on the first day of the course.
Please note:
- The software will only be accessible when logged into a UAL networked computer
- The same account can be used outside of the University, but software will only be accessible through a personal paid subscription that students will need to set up independently
- You can still create an account on the day but doing this beforehand will save time and avoid delays to the start of the class
- If you already have an Adobe ID/ subscription you can use this on your short course rather than setting up a new account
To create an account students will need to:

- Select 'Create an account'
- Enter your details and select 'Create account'

Tutor
Dominic Dyson
Dominic Dyson originally studied Painting at Chelsea School of Art, and Fine Art Film and Video at St. Martins. After a decade working in the music industry and as an artist’s assistant, he returned to study Digital Design at The London College of Printing, followed by an MA in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins.
He has over twenty years of experience teaching at the London College of Communication Design School, whilst concurrently running his own independent graphic, media, and communication design practice under the studio name typeandline working primarily in the educational, cultural, and public sectors. Clients have included major contemporary art museums in Basel and Cologne, the London boroughs of Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Merton, the University of the Arts London, the University of East London, and the University of Derby, as well as a range of artists projects.
Dominic is a cultural omnivore, with a passion for film, a diverse range of music, contemporary art, and pop culture, and is an occasional electronic music producer.
