Course description

Course overview

This experimental fashion design course is for students that have some experience in fashion design but would like to take their design skills further and explore their creative potential. Throughout the course you will be taught how to believe in your ideas and concepts and gain confidence to develop them into something exciting.

You will begin with in-depth research to really inspire and kick-start your creativity. The course will then introduce you to different ways of developing your individual ideas and concepts. You will work on 3D and 2D exercises that will help inform your designs in order to create a unique fashion collection. This can be anything from a contemporary wearable collection to sculptures worn on a body - wherever you want to establish yourself as a contemporary designer.

Who this course is for

This is an intermediate level course; to take part you will need some prior experience of Fashion Design. It will teach you how to create the new and fascinating designs and is particularly useful for designers looking to broaden their creative horizons.

Learning outcomes

Tutor

Petra Metzger

Petra Metzger is a fashion designer and educator with international experience spanning 20 years in the fashion industry and 11 years in education. She has a broad range of experience that includes commercial and high-end fashion design for international businesses. She created the womenswear fashion brand EINE LTD, and over many years leveraged students and creative professionals to the next step in their career.
Petra is highly qualified through a creative and technical education in fashion. Initially trained as a dressmaker, Petra successfully completed her BA and MA in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins. She gained international industry experience in London, Paris, Switzerland and Rio de Janeiro and worked amongst others with Haider Ackermann, Hussein Chalayan, Peter Jensen, Swiss Hest Group and Lenny Niemeyer. Drawing on this experience, in her teaching Petra effectively engages a range of learners from high schoolers to experienced creatives and working designers. Amongst many other places, she has taught Fashion at Norwich University, multiple degree and short courses at Central Saint Martins, and co-created and led the post graduate fashion school Orbita at Centro-br in Rio de Janeiro.
Petra is a warm and people friendly person with a future-orientated and holistic mindset, passionate about eliciting personal potentials and sharing inspiration, and with a love of creative endeavours and realisation of ideas with others.
 

Kiren Passi

Kiren Passi is a luxury Fashion Designer who trained at Christian Dior in Paris and subsequently worked as a womenswear Designer in London, Italy and New York. Kiren's extensive International Fashion Experience has meant she has engaged with craft communities across the world including Bali, India, Nepal, Japan and Hong Kong.
 
One of CSM's PG Certified and long standing short course tutors, teaching at CSM for over 10 years, Kiren's Fashion and Textile education includes a BA Hon's from UAL and an MA from the prestigious Royal College of Art. She was awarded a Swarovski design prize in 2016.

Alice Wellbeloved

Alice Wellbeloved has worked as head knitwear designer for numerous luxury brands including Christian Lacroix, Sonia Rykiel and Viktor and Rolf. She also teaches textiles, fashion and knitwear at Foundation and BA level at Central Saint Martins. Alice has a BA in Textile Design and a MA in Fashion Knitwear from Central Saint Martins.
