Patternmaking Level 1 Short Course
Course description
Course overview
In this beginners' course, you will learn the art of patternmaking from the experts at Central Saint Martins. You will practice how to use specialist equipment, pattern terminology and how to draw with accuracy and confidence the correct information that should be on finished patterns.
The course focuses on different pattern cutting techniques that will enable you to create your own designs. You will be using different techniques to achieve six skirt styles. It also covers dart manipulation on the bodice block and techniques to create four different bodice styles and six sleeve styles. All the techniques are transferable to other garments.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone with knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Beginners are welcome, as are those looking to expand existing knowledge.

Tutor
Belgin Vehbi
Belgin Vehbi is herself a London Collage of Fashion Design Graduate who has been successfully
practicing in the industry ever since. Belgin has worked as a creative pattern cutter and educator
for last 33 years teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Belgin has taught and
worked here and abroad, teaching design, creative pattern cutting and draping, in China, India
(NIFT), Korea and Turkey (IMA) since 1991. Currently Belgin is working as an Associate lecturer
teaching pattern cutting and draping on the MA Fashion Design at CSM, BA Print at CSM,
BA & MA Fashion Design at Kingston School of Art, BA Fashion Design at the University of West London
and short courses for UAL 3D Introduction to draping, 3D Draping Silhouette & 3D draping
summer school. Belgin has also worked in the industry with clients such as Hussein Chalayan. Her
strengths being her extensive creative and innovative pattern cutting and draping experience,
which she has now channelled into her teaching. Belgin has also completed the PG cert in Higher
Education and is a member of the FHEA.
Maddalena Amato
Maddalena Amato has been an Associate Lecturer for 16 years, working at Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion, University of the Creative Arts and University of West London.
