Course description

Course overview

Structured around the life model, the course draws heavily on experimentation and individual development. It will introduce materials and techniques that are crucial for those who wish to carry on exploring painting and more advanced drawing techniques. It culminates with the study of combined practice, in which all acquired techniques are brought together, forming a basis for you to further develop your creativity.

Who this course is for

This course is suitable for absolute beginners who are keen to strengthen their portfolio application to further studies, Students with some previous experience wishing to reinvigorate their practice are also welcome.

  • A3 portfolio or tube to carry work home with you
  • Pad of A3 Paper (suitable both for drawing and watercolours)
  • Pencils (H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B)
  • White chalk
  • Willow Charcoal sticks
  • Fixative Spray
  • Putty Rubber
  • Masking Tape
  • Dip Drawing Pen and various drawing nibs
  • Drawing Ink (preferably Sepia, Brown Umber, or Black)
  • Large round Wash Brush
  • A4 sheets of coloured paper (preferably black, brown, or any dark colour)
  • Water Pot
  • Palette
  • PVA Glue
  • Small sketch or notebook
  • Piece of cloth or rag

Tutor

David Price

David Price studied at Edinburgh School of Art, the University of Newcastle and The Royal College of Art. He is a practicing artist who in 2009 was selected for New Contemporaries. David has a PGCE teaching certificate and over 15 years of experience teaching drawing and fine art.

Alice White

Alice White is a professional oil painter and experienced tutor based in London. She has taught at Central Saint Martins for 18 years. Courses that she teaches include Beginners Painting, Art and Design for 16-18 Year Olds, Painting Art History with the Impressionists, and Contemporary Oil Painting.

She is an Accredited Lecturer for The Art Society.
