Drawing Skills Short Course
Course description
Course overview
On this course you will explore new ways of seeing and discover how to improve your drawing practice. Working with the still life and a life model as your subject, you will be taken through bite size exercises encouraging you to develop your own individual approach to drawing while improving your technical skills.
The tutor will take you through examples of different drawing styles and explain both materials and methods. The workshops will cover core skills as well as more experimental drawing techniques to inspire you further.
Who this course is for
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with more experience who want to practice and develop their drawing skills.
Students wishing to strengthen their portfolios for application to further studies will also benefit from the course.

Materials
Please bring with you to the first session:
- 2B/3B pencils
- Putty eraser
- Craft knife
- Masking tape
You will need the following items later in the course:
- Willow charcoal sticks - thick or extra thick
- Putty erasers (winsor and newton or daler rowney are best)
- Bristle brushes
- Fixative or hairspray
- A newspaper
Tutor
Rochelle Fry
Rochelle Fry is an artist and educator who lives and works in London. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in London where she studied sculpture, she has exhibited her work in the UK and internationally. Rochelle is a long standing member of Five Years, an artist run gallery, she curates exhibitions and coordinates collaborative projects. Rochelle has 10 years extensive experience teaching short courses at CSM including drawing and portfolio preparation. She writes bespoke courses preparing and mentoring students for successful art university applications and also teaches drawing at the Civil Engineering Department, City University, London.
