
Intermediate Poetry Online Short Course
Course description
Taught through a combination of lectures, close reading, discussion and exercises, this exciting six-week course is designed to help students broaden their understanding of poetry.
During the course, students gain inspiration on how to stretch a poem’s ability to convey an experience or thought. Students find fresh ways to approach a poem and write regularly in response to creative prompts.
The course covers several key topics including forms of address, disruption, poetic forms, movement and imagery. By the end of the course students should have developed their ability to write different types of poems and expanded their knowledge of poetry.
Course outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- Analyse poems better
- Write poems that disrupt linear narratives
- Develop their use of imagery
- Write poems in free verse and poetic forms
- Write apostrophe poems
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at anyone with a good foundational knowledge of poetry and the ability to write fluently in English. Students should have taken a beginner poetry course or previously attended poetry workshops.
