Course overview
Whether you are hoping to use the skills yourself or to better enable the directing of others, this fashion film making course introduces a broad range of techniques for the creation of fashion film; from research and planning to shooting, editing and broadcast. The course combines theory, discussion and practical workshops in a friendly and collaborative space.

This course is suitable for anyone interested in fashion film, regardless of prior experience. Beginners are welcome, as are those looking to expand existing knowledge.

- Pre-production: innovative research workflows, storyboarding and production planning
- Pitching: each student has the chance to pitch a concept for the shoot; one of which will go into production

- Shoot: collaborative crew-work - planning and shooting your fashion film

Materials
- Sketchbook
- A mobile phone/DSLR camera or tablet with camera and enough hard drive storage for filming
- A laptop with editing software you are familiar with so you can edit your work effectively (for example Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, Windows Movie Maker or other editing software and apps)
IMPORTANT - Adobe ID Login for Short Course Students
Students will need to create an account with Adobe (unless you already have one) to access the Adobe suite at the college - instructions are included below. You will need to use a personal email address to create this. If you already have an account with Adobe, please make sure you bring your login details with you on the first day of the course.
Please note:
- The software will only be accessible when logged into a UAL networked computer
- The same account can be used outside of the University, but software will only be accessible through a personal paid subscription that students will need to set up independently
- You can still create an account on the day but doing this beforehand will save time and avoid delays to the start of the class
- If you already have an Adobe ID/ subscription you can use this on your short course rather than setting up a new account
During this course you may be using Adobe Photoshop. If you do not already have Photoshop, you can sign up for a free 7-day trial of Adobe Creative Cloud. Please note a credit card is required to register for the free trial. The subscription must be cancelled on the date provided by Adobe if you do not wish to continue into a paid account.
To create an account students will need to:
- Go to Adobe Sign in page
- Select 'Create an account'
- Enter your details and select 'Create account'
Tutor
Nicole Markhoff
Nicole is a video director, editor and photographer with a BA in Digital Media from Germany and an MA in Fashion Media Production from the London College of Fashion. Nicole was born and grew up in Mauritius, and Germany. In Germany, she worked as a digital designer and promoter for fashion, lifestyle and tech brands. It is this background that helped carve her multifaceted visual style, digital media techniques and strong understanding of advertising and branding, which has seen her portfolio grow to include brands such as W hotel, London Fashion Week, Jo Malone and Bally, as well as personalities such as Rita Ora, John Boyega, and Noah Beck, to name a few. In addition to her creative pursuits, Nicole runs a video production and post-production company and a photo studio business in Wimbledon. Her classes are immersive and hands-on, designed to inspire students to experiment and push their creative boundaries in fashion film production.
