Applications are now open for the CoDesign4Transitions Doctoral Network, project funded through the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks programme – offering a total of 13 positions including 2 at UAL.

This four-year doctoral network (2024-28) brings together 8 universities, including UAL, in seven countries across Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK. It is a unique international opportunity for people who want to carry out practical doctoral research integrating design, sustainable transitions, and policy.

Two successful applicants will be recruited and employed by UAL for 3 years on a salary funded by UKRI. They will follow doctoral training in UAL’s Doctoral School, while based at London College of Communication, as well as having access to in person and online training and exchanges with the other 11 international students and experts who are part of the wider CoDesign4Transitions network. Successful candidates will have access to incredible international support and opportunities for learning and collaboration with 15 international partners and secondment hosts including Stockholm Environment Institute, Dutch Research Institute for Transition (Drift), Lisbon Council and Democratic Innovation.

The two funded PhD research roles at UAL are:

Successful candidates will need to comply with Marie Curie ‘mobility’ rules, which aim to encourage new connections and opportunities by providing generous funding to enable people to do doctoral research in a different European country from the one they have been living in.

Led by Prof Marzia Mortati at Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), Italy and co-led by Prof Lucy Kimbell, CSM at UAL, the network will also involve staff from across UAL colleges and institutes in the doctoral supervision and training.

Apply now

Applicants are required to apply before the deadline on 26 February 2024.

Applications should be submitted via the CoDesign4Transitions application portal.
