He is an experienced foreign correspondent who has reported from all over the world - having served as the BBC’s Asia, Africa, Washington and Europe Correspondent. He is also the host of First Night of the Proms, Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind, and was recently named as one of the lead presenters for BBC General Election Night.

Clive has been a powerful advocate for the importance of storytelling and increasing representation both on and off screen. Through his work across media, he has championed the role of arts and culture. His contributions include documentaries such as his radio series on the history of jazz in Britain, his TV show on the creation of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra and being the regular presenter of the First Night of the Proms. He began his term as Chancellor with a visit to UAL’s London College of Communication (LCC) where he met with students from its BA and MA Film and Television and Journalism courses.
UAL, a global leader in creative education, comprises of 6 prestigious Colleges and 4 Institutes and currently educates over 20,000 students with a global alumni network of 500,000. For the past 6 years it has been ranked 2nd in the world for art and design education (QS World University Rankings by Subject).
The appointment comes during a transformative period for the University, marked by a strong commitment to expanding access to high-quality creative education. In 2023/24, a new campus for the London College of Fashion opened at East Bank, while redevelopment of the Lime Grove site in Shepherd’s Bush is underway to enhance its pre-degree offerings. Meanwhile, construction is progressing on a new LCC campus at Elephant and Castle, which will support its range of Design, Media, and Screen courses.
Clive succeeds Sir Grayson Perry who served as Chancellor from 2015-2023.
