University of the Arts London has announced that Sir Grayson Perry RA is to move on from his role as Chancellor of University of the Arts London. Grayson has held the position since August 2015. Prior to his appointment, Grayson served as independent governor to UAL’s Court of Governors (2010 – 2015). Grayson will remain in post until the end of the year.

Before joining the Court of Governors and throughout his tenure, Grayson has championed the work of UAL’s students and alumni. For almost two decades Grayson has worked with Central Saint Martins’ BA (Hons) Fashion Design: Print students to create unique dresses for his alter ego Claire. He also judges the annual Grayson’s Robes competition which invites students from across the University to design the ceremonial outfit to be worn at the graduation ceremonies. This year’s robe, which will represent his last as Chancellor, will be designed by Yinfang Wang a 1st year BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery student at London College of Fashion.

I consider the opportunity to serve as Chancellor, as a real privilege and have loved championing the importance of art with our students and supporters. I have enjoyed watching our students flourish and have been so impressed and inspired by their approach to their craft. I know that our future is safe in their hands

— Sir Grayson
Grayson has been a powerful advocate for the work and ideals of our staff and students. I would like to thank him, on behalf of our entire community, for his work as well as his continued advocacy for the role and value of creativity in all our lives
