University of the Arts London (UAL) has ranked 19th in the Guardian’s 2023 University Guide - marking the first time the University has appeared in the top 20. In the past 5 years, UAL has climbed 56 places in the prestigious league table.

UAL is the leading art and design specialist institute and ranks 4th in London.

The Guardian uses a number of measures of performance, covering all stages of the student life cycle including entry standards, student-staff ratios, continuation, student satisfaction, value-added and career prospects.

UAL, which announced its new 10-year strategy in 2022, has continued to climb in a number of league tables. In the past year, UAL rose 5 places in the Complete University Guide and was also named the 7th greenest university in the UK – maintaining its position as the country’s highest-ranking arts university in People & Planet’s University League.

Everyone at UAL should be proud of this achievement, which reflects the commitment and ingenuity of our staff. We believe the world needs creativity. And as we go forward, we will bring our high-quality creative education to more students than ever before.

— James Purnell, President & Vice-Chancellor of UAL
