Carnival of Crisis has begun and UAL’s Climate Emergency Network are taking over a number of stalls at Kings Cross Canopy Market over 3 days, presenting a host of designers and artists who stand for cultural or environmental good and slowing the climate crisis.
A celebration of makers, artists, and craftspeople across UAL, Carnival of Crisis x Canopy Market is a chance to support socially-minded design - and explore what it means to be more ecocentric and environmentally conscious.
Part of the Carnival of Crisis programme, the takeover is a collaboration between UAL’s Post-Grad Community, climate publication It’s Freezing in LA!, ACAN’s Climate Confession Booth, Seed Magazine, Raising Futures and not just a shop.
Under a Victorian steel and glass roof in the heart of King’s Cross, The Canopy Market brings a historic market hall back to life. Carnival of Crisis x Canopy Market calls on creative changemakers everywhere to demonstrate the power of imagination, innovation, and collaboration to bring about environmental and social justice.
Individually sourcing, selecting and supporting independent producers, Carnival of Crisis teams up with the Canopy Market to bring together fresh produce, artisan food, designer-makers and artists alongside street food, craft drinks and music.

Climate Confession Booth
An installation by Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN), the Climate Confession Booth is designed to generate conversations around the climate crisis. The process of admitting your environmental sins and reading other anonymous confessions hopes to spark communal reflection and understanding of people’s perceptions and concerns about the climate emergency. Rather than leave you with a sense of individual shame, the booth hopes that shared experiences will inspire people towards collective action.
ACAN is a network of individuals within the built environment, taking collective action to address climate issues. Formed in 2019 the group has grown to over 1000 individuals, more than 20 campaigns and working groups, and seven national/regional chapters. The Network have a physical presence and programme of activity in Glasgow over 27 October - 21 November.

Carnival of Crisis
Carnival of Crisis demonstrates that the arts can – and must– respond to the climate and ecological emergency. Creative action is being manifested and mobilised through a series of events, running parallel the COP26 Climate Summit hosted by the UK in the context of the global environmental crisis. It brings together UAL’s community of students, alumni and staff, along with our global network of arts universities, our partners and our publics.
The climax of the Carnival is our Parade for Climate Justice on 10 November at Chelsea Parade Ground. What will you bring?
