Biography

Hussein Barma is a non-executive director of two listed companies, Asian Values PLC (where he is audit chair) and Eldorado Gold Corporation.  He was previously a non-executive director of Atalaya Mining Copper, S.A. until 2025 and Chaarat Gold Holdings Limited until 2024. Between 1998 and 2014, he was UK-based Chief Financial Officer of Antofagasta plc, a FTSE-50 company with interests in Latin America, during a period of change and growth.

Hussein is currently a member of the finance committee of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.  He was previously a Trustee and Treasurer of Modern Art Oxford until 2019 and a steering committee member of the Financial Reporting Council’s Financial Reporting Lab until 2018.

Hussein is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, having qualified with Price Waterhouse (now PwC) earlier in his career, and a non-practising barrister and member of the Middle Temple.  He has a doctorate in corporate law from the University of Oxford.
