Samar F. Zia is an artist, writer and curator. She’s recently launched Art Social, a workshop where families can work on a piece together to then take home. She told us more about how her own experiences led her to setting up Art Social.

Samar graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2013 and is also a member of the Alumni of Colour Association committee.

Can you tell us a bit about your creative background?

I’m an artist, writer and curator based in London, and I have over 10 years of experience working in the creative industries both in the UK and Pakistan. My passion for teaching has meant I’ve taught at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Pakistan and at Art Academy London. My Fine Art practice investigates the notion of urban planning and its relation to the climate crisis, executed in the historic genre of Mughal and Persian Miniature painting.

Why have you set up Art Social?

As a mother artist, I’ve zealously taken my children to creative activities since they were very young and immensely enjoy creating alongside them. However, none of these activities were designed as collaborative adult-child projects. Hence my latest venture providing bespoke creative workshops titled Art Social was born. I decided to set up workshops for families, where the whole family can work on one piece to take away with them, all the while connecting on an emotional level.

What will the workshops focus on?

Using my Fine Art training, each workshop is developed through careful planning to the needs of the customer. Besides workshops for families, Art Social also designs and delivers workshops for art enthusiasts and corporates, offering short painting courses and one-off team-building events. Not only do these workshops serve as art therapy, they’re also successful networking events.

How can people book?
