Two University of the Arts London alumni have won awards in the 2024 Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Known as the UK’s most prestigious open exhibition for drawing, the winners were chosen from 2,280 submissions by 1,270 candidates across the world.

  • Hyeyeon Chung received the Student Award worth £2,000.
  • Emma Douglas received the Working Drawing Award worth £2,000.

Hyeyeon graduated earlier this year with an MA in Fine Art: Drawing from Camberwell College of Arts . Emma completed her Art & Design Foundation course in 1976 at Central School of Art and Design, now Central Saint Martins (CSM).

About the winners

Hyeyeon Chung was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1992. Drawing is a pivotal part of her practice. Her intricate, monochromatic compositions are inspired by contemporary landscape, memory and diasporic experiences.

The Working Drawing Award celebrates the role of drawing within architecture, design and making. Born in London in 1965, Emma Douglas has exhibited in both group and solo shows across the UK including The Jerwood Drawing Prize, Flowers Gallery, Arusha Gallery and Norwich Cathedral. Her winning drawing is the plan for a mural the artist installed in Spa Fields, Skinner Street, London. It’s the eleventh work in a series of 22 murals in memory of her son Cato who died in 2010 aged 21.
