Biography

Honorary Fellow

Graduate of Camberwell College of Art and London College of Fashion, Amali de Alwis MBE’s career spans creative, technical and commercial roles in the fashion and technology industries. The common thread between these experiences is her ambition to facilitate social impact.

By harnessing her creativity and business savvy, Amali works tirelessly to boost diversity and female empowerment through her work as a board member and advisor to organisations that focus on education, tech and sustainability. These include Digital Camp, Ada College, AimHi Earth and the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

An advocate for female empowerment in technology and the promotion of computer science among young people, in 2015 Amali became chief executive of Code First: Girls, a multi-award-winning social enterprise. Under her leadership, Code First: Girls taught more UK women to code each year than studied computer science in the British university undergraduate system, providing £2.5 million worth of free technology education. In 2018 she was awarded an MBE for her services to training and diversity in the Technology Industry and was named Computer Weekly’s Most Influential Woman in UK IT.
