Biography

Honorary Doctor

Born in Sierra Leone, IB Kamara moved from Gambia to London at the age of 16. Shortly after graduating from Central Saint Martins, he became the costume stylist on Sampha’s short film “Process”, directed by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar.

His distinctive and refreshing artistic vision which marries African and Western aesthetics, set him apart and established him as an important fixture in the fashion industry. His styling credits include editorials, campaigns and runway shows for the likes of Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Ferragamo and British, American, Italian and French Vogue.

IB joined i-D magazine as Fashion Editor-at-Large in 2018, was promoted to Senior Fashion Editor-at Large within a year and became Editor-in-Chief of Dazed magazine in 2021. During his 4-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief, he highlighted important sociopolitical causes like the fight for transgender rights and platformed emerging creatives from underrepresented backgrounds through the magazine’s celebrated cover shoots. Alongside this, he styled and photographed covers featuring Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Tyla, Rosalia and Naomi Campbell, producing boundary-pushing imagery that redefined how these iconic stars are seen.

Following the passing of Virgil Abloh, IB became the Off-White Art and Image Director in 2022 and debuted his first runway collection in 2023, before being appointed Creative Director in 2024.
