CRiSAP study and teaching

The teaching environment at CRiSAP is closely integrated with its research, fostering a space that is critical, inclusive and imaginative.

Postgraduate researchers enjoy numerous opportunities to:

  • engage with research-active staff
  • contribute to ongoing projects
  • access cutting-edge facilities that enhance their creative work.

They also have the support of the UAL Doctoral School, which provides a dynamic environment for arts researchers.

CRiSAP plays a key role in developing new teaching methods and shaping the curriculum. We also provide unique learning experiences through workshops, field trips and international exchanges.

Our members and PhD students regularly contribute to the BA (Hons) Sound Arts: Design and MA Sound Arts courses at London College of Communication (LCC).

Our PhD programme

We welcome applications for practice-based and theoretical PhDs in any area of sound arts for either full-time or part-time study. Our PhD programme attracts sound artists and creative practitioners from diverse backgrounds, with multidisciplinary interests, experiences and skills.

When approaching a potential CRiSAP supervisor we ask you to have a well-defined research question and to mention whether you have contacted any other members of CRiSAP or UAL staff. Where possible, we aim to be available for informal discussion in advance of a formal application.

Many of our constantly changing PhD cohort continue to remain part of CRiSAP’s research community long after completing their degrees.

Sound Arts Lecture Series

CRiSAP supports the Sound Arts Lecture Series, LCC – a weekly programme of inspiring talks by world leading practitioners, open to our undergraduate and postgraduate communities.

Teaching and learning are deeply intertwined with our research, continually driving the exchange of new ideas and sending them out into the world.

Research: Sonic Knowledge and Pedagogies
