Alejandro Martínez is a traditional animator, Climate Justice activist and academic. The connection of their work in these diverse areas is in the focus on creating political and cultural change. As an activist, they coordinated internationally the youth climate social movement Fridays For Future, that since 2019 has taken millions of people to the streets to demand climate action, and that has had a pivotal role worldwide communicating the intersectional aspect of the Climate Emergency, moving public understanding of this crisis from Climate Change towards demanding Justice in the necessary environmental transition and putting the voices from the most affected people and areas at the center. They're responsible for the largest climate mobilisation in history to date, during COP25 in Madrid.
Their art work has been exhibited across Europe, and their animations in festivals across the globe.
At UAL, they have been part of the team developing the Climate Action Plan, as well as lecturing and delivering staff development sessions in this area, and workshops through the Climate Emergency Network, before starting the role of Climate Justice Curriculum Developer, where as part of the Academic Strategy Department, they assisted all courses in LCC to contextualise Climate, Racial and Social Justice in their curriculum.
In 2025, they received the UAL Student Union's Arts Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Justice.
