Biography

Anna Troisi is an internationally recognized digital artist, researcher, experimental electronic musician, performer, and programmer whose work bridges technology, human interaction, and creative expression. With a background in computer science, music, neuroscience, and nanotechnology, Anna brings an interdisciplinary perspective to her research and teaching, driven by a commitment to advancing equitable futures.

At the heart of Anna’s practice is the "Design for Change" framework, which integrates creative computing, data-driven insights, and community engagement to address pressing social and environmental challenges.

Her work explores the transformative potential of sound and data, creating multisensory experiences that challenge conventional boundaries between technology and the human experience. Through this approach, Anna contributes to socially responsible innovation, enabling communities to apply technology for meaningful change.

In her academic role, Anna serves as Deputy Chair of the Research Ethics and Knowledge Exchange Sub-Committee at UAL and is a key member of the CCI Research Committee and REF group. She is passionate about promoting open-source, human-centered technologies and has held leadership roles that emphasize interdisciplinarity, knowledge exchange, and practice-based research, including at Bournemouth University and the University of Greenwich.

As a composer and performer, Anna’s artistic work explores sound as a bridge between technology and human senses. Her compositions span acousmatic, acoustic, environmental, and data-driven sound art, often blending empirical data with creative expression.

Recent highlights include Milli svefns og vöku – Tra il sonno e la veglia (2024), a chamber ensemble composition for Nordic Affect (Violin, Viola, Cello, Harpsichord). Inspired by Jón Kalman Stefánsson’s novel Your Absence is Darkness, the piece translates the stark emotional landscapes of Icelandic fjords into music. Performed on November 15, 2024, at Mengi, Reykjavik, the composition evokes feelings of suspension, solitude, and fragmented memories, mirroring the novel's nonlinear, mosaic narrative.

Other notable works include Méiyǒu shālù (Without Killing) (2023), an immersive acousmatic piece on non-violence, and Norm Contaminated (2018), an environmental soundscape created from field recordings at the Wytch Farm oil field in Dorset. Anna has collaborated extensively with international artists, performing at major festivals such as the Angelica Festival in Bologna and the Trialogo Festival at Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella.

Anna’s interdisciplinary work invites audiences and collaborators to reflect on sound, data, and technology’s role in shaping a sustainable and equitable future.
