Biography

Dr Annamarie McKie is Associate Dean Student Experience, and Chair of Student Transition and Retention group at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, London, UK. She holds a Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) with key outputs in practice based academic development, including work on academic identity, coaching and mentoring and reflective dialogue in the creative arts. Her doctoral thesis entitled ‘An exploration of how creative arts lecturers talk about reflecting on their teaching’ is published by the University of Roehampton, and is available from the British Library Ethos e-theses.

Annamarie’s first career was as a chartered librarian working in public and academic libraries in Devon and Kent. It was through these library roles that she developed a keen interest in information literacy and empowering users to enrich their social and cultural capital. In her second career in academia, Annamarie has held various professional support and academic roles in libraries, research and education, at University for the Creative Arts and University of the Arts London. She champions reflective teaching as a means of addressing awarding gaps and becoming an inclusive educator. Annamarie has been an active member of ARLIS (Art Libraries Society) organising conferences for art librarians across the UK and Ireland. She has also been a key member of the Staff and Educational Development (SEDA) Executive, contributing to conferences and publications. In her previous university, Annamarie developed the Creative Education CPD Scheme to enable experienced staff to apply for professional recognition of Advance HE. She was also a regular contributor to the PGCert in Learning and Teaching, leading the Reflective portfolio unit. Annamarie holds various leadership qualifications including ILM Level 5 and Leadership Foundation Service Leadership award. She is a Principal Fellow of Advance HE.
