Biography

I am a designer, writer and educator using images and words to question colonial ways of seeing and making. I am best known within the industry for publishing numerous articles for AIGA Eye on Design, which have made their way onto design curricula around the world, notably 'What Does it Mean to Decolonize Design?' and 'What Can Designers Learn from Indigenous Communities Fighting Climate Change'. My words unearth hidden histories for Elephant, investigate industry inequities for Creative Review, and report for Eye Magazine. I have been invited by organisations internationally to speak about this work, including Parsons School of Design, Berlin University of the Arts, Royal College of Art, The British Council, ideo.org, Maryland Institute College of Arts, University of Virginia in Qatar, and University of Bologna. I have designed for a diverse range of clients via my freelance practice, including music magazine Gigwise, climate organisation Hubbub, and storytellers PositiveNegatives. My role on the GCD programme at Central Saint Martins is concerned with challenging the canon of communication design.
