Biography

Hello. I'm Carys, and I'm an educator, coach, mentor and researcher specialising in disability equity in Higher Education.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Creative Education, teaching on UAL's PgCert Academic Practice course. I am also a reviewer and mentor for the Professional Recognition Programme, which supports colleagues to undertake Advance HE-accredited fellowships (e.g. AFHEA, FHEA and SFHEA).

Alongside my role at UAL, I am a part-time PhD student at the Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Leeds. My research area is disability inclusion in Art and Design Higher Education, building on my MA Academic Practice dissertation "Cripping the Crit: Exploring the inclusivity of crits and presentations at UAL through the lens of Critical Disability Studies".

Prior to my current role, I worked in UAL's Disability Service for 10 years, where I coordinated staff development sessions and resources, alongside a busy student caseload and line management of the Disability Advice team.
