Biography

Cassian is currently a Senior Lecturer in Communications and Media at the London College of Communication. He leads units in Digital Culture, Digital Methods and Digital Futures and teaches a range of theoretical and methodological approaches to studying media and communication, emphasising the sociotechnical qualities of contemporary life and drawing on his background in Sociology, Cultural Studies and Critical Data Studies.

Before joining LCC Cassian worked as Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia on a 3-year AHRC project - Political Ideology, Rhetoric and Aesthetics in the Twenty-First Century: The Case of the 'Alt-Right' (2018-2021). He then worked as Teaching Fellow in Digital Media and Culture at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies at the University of Warwick (2020-2021).

Cassian completed his PhD in Sociology at the London School of Economics (2019), with a thesis titled 'Sharing the digital public sphere? Facebook and the politics of immigration'. His current research covers contemporary debates and controversies in politics, media and culture, with specific focus on political extremism and digital subcultures. Cassian welcomes students interested in any of these particular topics.
