David Sims

Biography

As Head of Pre-Degree Operations at UALs School of Pre Degree Studies, David oversees the university’s pre-degree portfolio, driving excellence in curriculum, technical support, safeguarding, assessment, and quality. His remit includes resource management, long-term strategic planning, and ensuring alignment with UAL’s wider institutional strategy.

Previously, as Interim Associate Director for Progression Projects and Pre-Degree, David provided strategic oversight of the University’s pre-degree provision (including Ofsted-nominated areas) and internal progression pathways, securing a pipeline of applicants to undergraduate study. His earlier leadership as Programme Director for International Studies and Progression combined academic leadership with international recruitment.

David has consistently championed innovation in curriculum design and validation, from co-authoring the MA Data Visualisation to revalidating undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Graphic Design Communication. His contributions extend beyond UAL through roles as External Examiner, Moderator, Reviewer, and Panel Member for institutions including Leeds Beckett University, University of West London, University for the Creative Arts, and Morley College.

A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, David is recognised for advancing standards in teaching, learning, and assessment. His expertise spans governance, operational delivery, and stakeholder engagement, underpinned by a deep commitment to widening participation, student progression, and the future of creative education.
