Biography
Felice McDowell is a cultural historian and theorist whose research interests span methodologies of fashion history, critical theory, life writing, life narratives, narrative identities and generations.Awarded a PhD in 2014 by the University of the Arts London, her doctoral research, a study of British fashion media and the representation of public spaces of art and culture in editorial photo-spreads, affords new insights into the cultural history of post-war Britain.
Since then, Felice has gone on to develop her research, paying close attention to the critical intersections between representation, practices and narratives of fashion, work, and identities, resulting in articles published in journals including Fashion Theory, About Performance, a/b: Auto/Biography Studies and the European Journal of Life Writing.
Felice is author of monograph 1960s Model Girl: Narrative Identities in Fashion, Time and History (Bloomsbury 2025) and co-editor of Fashioning Professionals: Identity and Representation at Work in the Creative Industries (Bloomsbury 2018).
Appointed Course Leader of MA Fashion Cultures and Histories at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, in 2022, her teaching experience includes long-standing appointments working as a lecturer for Department of Cultural and Historical Studies, London College of Fashion, Department of Cultural Studies, Central Saint Martins, and on the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication: Fashion History and Theory programme, Central Saint Martins.
