Biography

Dr Funke Oyebanjo is a screenwriter, educator, and researcher. She is currently serving as the Senior Lecturer in Screenwriting on the BA Film and Television programme in the Screen School at London College of Communication. Funke is an experienced screenwriter and script developer, with her television script "The Window" produced for Channel Four’s Coming Up season. She has written episodes of "The Governor" (Season Two) for Netflix and is part of the writer’s team for Archery’s upcoming drama "Lagos." She has also worked extensively with BBC Writer’s Room, BBC World Service, the UK Film Council, and Creative England.

Her research focuses on sensory, embodiment, and narrative practices, particularly in screenwriting and the screenplay. Her research, broadly practice-led, investigates screenwriting methodology; sensory embodiment; Women’s screen practice; and the development of new writing prototype designs for film, television and online. Currently, she is researching virtual production and the screenplay. Her other outputs include journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers. She is co-editor of the forthcoming "Collaborative Creativity in Film and Television Industries" (Routledge 2025).
Funke is a member of the LCC’s interdisciplinary research hub, the Sonic Screen Lab. She has served as a juror for the Skillset Creative and Innovative Award for Women in Television and Film, a judge for the Women Over Fifty Film Festival and I Will Tell Film Festival and programmed the Raindance Web Fest Film Festival (2019). She is a member of the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS), the Screenwriting Research Network (SRN), Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS),and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts
