Biography

Julia Redman owns and manages retail buying and sourcing consultancy Buyers Eye, working with brands, retailers, suppliers and licensees to enhance their capability, and work towards more ethical and sustainable business practices. She is a former Head of Buying, with over 30 years diverse buying experience. Julia is the Sustainability Consultant for online brand Joanie Clothing, and host/contributor to the Brands & Retail UK Conference.

Julia is also the Fashion Ambassador for non-profit organisation Products of Change, working with the organisation and its team of advisors and ambassadors to deliver initiatives and education to improve sustainability across retail, brands and licensing. Key elements of this role are participation at events such as Brand Licensing Europe (to which we introduced a group of 20 UAL students last year), the Sustainability in Licensing Conference and a variety of knowledge building webinars for members of the organisation.

She started her career at BHS, having completed a BSc in Food, Textiles and Consumer Studies. She has since worked in the buying departments of Arcadia Group, Marks and Spencer, Woolworths, Debenhams and M&Co, buying private label, licensed and branded clothing. Julia’s global sourcing experience includes men’s, ladies and children’s clothing, and home accessories, managing the process from planning to production and onto the British high street. Julia has completed additional professional training in Sustainable Business Management with the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership, and in advanced negotiation and leadership skills at the Institute of Directors.
