Biography
I am Course Leader and Senior Lecturer for the BA Graphic Communication Design course at Central Saint Martins. My teaching practice primarily focuses on activating inclusive pedagogical practices—through curriculum interventions that build communities of learners, foreground peer learning, co-creation, co-production and instil participatory approaches in design education. This has evolved from the research I have engaged with during my PgCert, MA Academic and supported my successful application as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My practice focus is experiential forms of information and interaction design and my research area is digitally-engaged practices and processes of making within creative disciplines and more specifically whether the use of digital tools and spaces influence collaborative and co-creative approaches in design and design education. This has been explored through the following research questions – How can participation within digital spaces encourage a collaborative community of participants to counteract the norms of a conventional individualistic learning experience and promote co-creative models of making?’ (2020) and ‘How can participatory approaches impact, re-imagine, and decolonize the curriculum?’ (2019)
My practice as a graphic designer has a huge influence on my approach as an educator. My work brings together information and experience design approaches which prioritise clarity of content through structure, organisation, and context as a means of ensuring communication and audience understanding. My industry experience spans a broad spectrum of design fields working with both print and digital media for a number of design studios and as a freelance designer, I have worked with a number of clients within the charity sector including medical, human-rights and legal aid.
