Biography
Lauren Goldie is an artist and PhD researcher at Central Saint Martins. Current research uses embodiment theory to examine asteroid mining, questioning its purpose to alleviate environmental impacts caused by resource extraction on Earth. The theory’s effectiveness is investigated using haptic and phenomenological methodologies implemented through sculptural and print practices. Astrophysical papers, current mining practices and science fiction are examined to investigate hauntology’s capability for depicting future mining technologies. Outcomes are combined to develop experimental forms of writing to envisage future scenarios involving mining innovations.Lauren is recipient of the 2023 Muse Residency, the 22/23 Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship and the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize. She has exhibited in solo shows at Bankside Artist Space and Winchester Gallery. Group exhibitions include ‘Youth’, touring Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang China and ‘IPBSZERO’, a collaboration with CASS Faculty of Art and the Whitechapel Gallery.
