Biography

Lucy Gunning is an Artist and a Senior Lecturer at Chelsea College of Arts.
Her practice involves installation and live events that juxtapose diverse material and spatial elements, engaged with the entanglement of a given site/context. Often working with moving image, sculptural or found objects, architectural intervention. There is an ongoing interest in performativity, temporality, space, matter. Informed by a politics of feminist, queer, decolonising, and ecological intent.

Recent solo projects include; ‘un’, No Show Space (2023); ‘Xylo-Phone’, Mattflix, Matts Gallery (2022);
‘In passing’, Palfrey Space (2021); ‘My Heart is like a Singing Bird’, The Bower, London, (2018);
Recent collaborative projects include; [these roarers], Whitstable Biennale 2018; ‘Incandescent’, Grand Square, Royal Naval College, Greenwich 2017, both with Bernice Donszelmann and Helen Robertson.

Past solo exhibitions include; Focus 4;RePhil, Philbrook Museum, Oaklahoma, 2007; The Archive, the Event and it’s Architecture, The Wordsworth Trust, Grasmere, Cumbria, 2007; Intermediate II, Art Now, London Tate Britain 2001; and solo shows at Matt’s Gallery, London; Green Naftali, New York; City Racing, London, Spike Island, Bristol etc.
