Biography

Melinda Gibson is an artist and educator based in London. Gibson works at the boundaries of photography, where pre-existing codes and theories are questioned through experimental and process based methods. Her practice is grounded in contemporary visual digestion, where appropriation, re-interruption of existing material is formulated anew. She is a Senior Lecturer and leads the Third Year of BA Fine Art Photography at Camberwell College of Arts.

Melinda has exhibited widely across Europe, United States and Australia.

Gibson is a recipient of Foam Talent Call and Magenta Foundation Award 2010. She was selected as 1 of the Jury members for the Unseen Dummy Award 2013 and was a finalist in the Unseen Meijburg & Co Art Commission as well as being nominated for the Foam Paul Huf Award in 2014 & 2015.

Her work has been featured and reviewed in, Dazed and Confused, AnOther Magazine, Nowness, Marie Claire, Material Girl, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Harpers Bizarre, Objektiv, Vogue Italia, The Photographer's Playbook by Aperture, a-n, Beg Steal Borrow amoung others.

Gibson is the author of three titles, including the reworked The Photograph As Contemporary Art, Miss Titus Becomes A Regular Army Mac and SPBH Book Club Volume VI. Gibson’s publications are held in numerous collections, including the National Art Library at the V&A Museum, Pier 24, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Foam Photography Museum as well as private collections worldwide.
