Biography

I am a textile/chemical engineer with expertise in textile chemical process engineering, polymer processing, and effluent treatment. I have more than 26 years of academic and industrial research experience in sustainable textile and polymeric materials development, closed-loop textile process development, recycling and reuse of spent- dyebath, zero-effluent dyeing and finishing, dyeing and finishing of textiles under subcritical and supercritical media, synthesis of polymeric dyes and textile finishing agents, synthesis of metallic and polymeric nanoparticles for textile applications, wearable textiles, wound dressings, medical textiles, sustainable multifunctional textile development, polymer bio-composites and nanocomposites, polymer rheology, polymeric ceramics, carbon fiber from renewable resources, catalytic ozonation, sustainable leather processing, and sustainable footwear production. I had a BSc in textile technology majoring in textile and polymer chemistry from the University of Dhaka and then completed my PhD in Textile Technology/Chemical Engineering in 1999 at the University of Manchester under a British Commonwealth scholarship. Before joining the Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute (UAL), I worked as a senior scientist in the Bioproduct and Fiber Technology Team of the New Zealand Pastoral Agricultural Research Institute for 18 years and as a Lecturer in Polymer Science and Engineering at Yamagata University for two years. I have been working as an associate editor of RSC Advances (published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK) since 2015. I have reviewed more than 1000 articles submitted to more than 45 journals including Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, Chemical Engineering Journal, ACS Nano, and Journal of Hazardous Materials.
