Nicol Parkinson

Biography

Nicol Parkinson (they/them etc.) is an artist and part-time researcher, working between sound and performance, in action and reception.

At CRISAP I've been working towards my PhD thesis (Butlers Wharf and the London Musicians Colletive: Sounding Strategies in time-based art in London, 1970-1988) in which I am tracing a unified history of sound in the development of performance art and performance in the development of sound art, as they emerged in the latter twentieth century.

In tandem with my research, I work with artists making performance, as participant, sound designer and sonic dramaturg, depending on what might be called for by each project. I regularly collaborate with Tamm Reynolds (Midgitte Bardot), Jo Hauge, and Eirini Kartsaki.
