Biography

Rhosyn’s research interests centre on how we make, use, and read images and aesthetic choices, and the ways in which people draw on a range of personal and social tools to negotiate these often highly ambiguous spaces.

Rhosyn’s master’s research focussed on false and painted nails as examples of complex social and personal practice. Her current research looks at costume – both for performance and as group practice – and how we use and respond to both historic and contemporary costume. She is particularly interested in aesthetic choice and embodied practice, including those of dress, adornment, and body modification, as modes of social communication, with an emphasis on how these practices are enacted and understood within and across sub-groups and class boundaries. Current research proposals look specifically at what these practices tell us about engagement with heritage experiences.

As another form of social aesthetics, Rhosyn is also interested in historical and contemporary illustration, particularly children’s book illustration

At FTTI, Rhosyn works on a range of academic research bids, primarily focused on costume and dress, and the exploration of digital rendition of historic costume for the heritage sector.
