Biography

Dr Rupert Waldron researches and teaches on cultural industries in transnational contexts. His PhD with Westminster Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), researched the interface between UK Art and Design Higher Education and creative labour in Mumbai and Shanghai, oriented to saving internationalised art and design higher education from reduction to the priming of brainworking 'talent' for surplus extraction by transnational capital through 'knowledge exchange' and creative industries programmes. Applying a historical materialist critical political economy approach to cultural industry, the research grounds itself in the struggle for non-exploited, unalienated creative expressivity for every worker, and the belief that this means ending the commodification labour for all: a non-fetishised creativity. He has published with with PeDrio, IAFOR and Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and presented papers at various conferences, including Historical Materialism.
