Biography

Silvia Grimaldi is Professor in Service Design and Transformation and Co-Founder and Co-Leader of the Service Futures Lab at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.

With a participatory, design-justice approach, Silvia leads multi-stakeholder projects that tackle societal challenges alongside governments, communities, organisations, and students, and works on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) within organisational transformation.

She's collaborated extensively with the London Borough of Camden and other local and national governments on initiatives from co-designing family services post-Covid to addressing homelessness and emergency pandemic response systems.
She has co-designed a framework for Equality Diversity and Inclusion as well as Inclusive Design within the Digital and Product Design industries in the UK, and has delivered collaborative organisational EDI work within large manufacturing businesses in the UK.

Her work spans service design, service transformation, and policy interventions; outputs range from academic publications and toolkits to exhibitions, workshops, and public reports.

She researches on Design Justice, Service Design, Inclusion and Equity, Inclusive Design, Co-Design and Participatory Practices, Collaboration, the role of Narrative and Surprise in Experiences, Design Fiction and Speculative Design as tools for Public Engagement, and Service Design Pedagogy. Her research work has been published in international journals and as part of edited books and she is peer reviewer for international journals and conferences.
