Biography
Tom Harper is a practice-based PhD researcher and fine artist. His research area is fine art drawing and printmaking practice. He investigates how certain methods of making which work in direct contact with surfaces and objects reveals unique sensory knowledge. The ‘material closeness’, brought about through haptic embodied engagement, aims to uncover embedded histories and surface past memories.Tom graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2013. He also received an MA with distinction in Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts in 2022.
Tom’s work has been selected for numerous exhibitions, including recently ‘Beyond Mountains’ at Coningsby Gallery (2022), ‘Through the Looking Glass’ at Mall Galleries, (2023) ‘Obscura’ at Crypt Gallery 2023 and the ‘Graduate Art Show’ at Woolfe Gallery (2023).
Tom has experience of teaching as part of the Graduate Student Assistant scheme at UAL. He has experience in publishing academic papers and writing.
