Biography

Yicen (Aziel) Liu is a new media artist, programme director, psychotherapist, and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Zhong Ling Cheng Ze Trading Co., Ltd. Currently undertaking a practice-based PhD at the London College of Communication (LCC), she collaborates closely with the Creative Computing Institute (CCI) on research focused on virtual reality. Aziel’s work centres on developing VR monuments that amplify counter-discourses, employing innovative approaches like narrative-driven storytelling, digital media, and user-generated content to transform personal experiences into immersive virtual spaces.
Her recent project, The Mirage, was showcased in the "Great Sound is Silent" exhibition at the Goldsmiths Confucius Institute. This piece explores human nature, critiquing the way individuals often become bound by desires, or "seven deadly sins," revealing how these impulses can turn people into unwitting servants of their own cravings. Through this work, Aziel interweaves incisive social commentary with Daoist philosophy, encouraging profound reflection on modern society.
Thanks for the Wisdom of China, Aziel is devoted to using advanced technology and immersive installations to convey timeless Chinese philosophical insights. She aspires for her work to not only spark contemplation but also foster empathy and emotional resonance, creating a form of artistic healing that bridges art and the audience.
