Biography
Dr. Zey Suka-Bill is the Dean of Screen at London College of Communication, responsible for leading undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Film, Television, Animation, Games Design and Sound Arts. After gaining a BA in Photographic Arts and Criminology from Westminster University, Zey worked as an exhibiting photographer and medical illustrator within the public sector before going into full-time arts education.Zey has over 25 years of experience in teaching, leadership and management in both Further and Higher Education, and has taught and developed visual art modules across a variety of degree disciplines in several London-based Higher Education institutions. She holds a Masters in Research (MREs) from the University of London and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Zey is a recognised scholar in critical race theory, decolonial practice, and equitable student engagement within creative higher education. Her work interrogates the entrenchment of whiteness in institutional structures and pedagogies and champions racially minoritised student voices in the co-creation of curricula. As an academic leader and researcher-practitioner, she bridges strategic policy work with frontline pedagogic reform, advocating systemic transformation through participatory approaches. Her background in visual media has shifted focus to use photography as a research tool that encourage marginalised voices to be heard in order to cultivate new ways of thinking, seeing and collaborating. This practice has developed into her doctoral research focusing on social justice and the impact of well-intended institutional policy on minority cohorts and identities within the Arts Education sector.
Zey is also a trustee of the Global Academy.
